NOAA Cooperative Science Center Alumni Share Career Journeys and Insights at Fall 2025 Panel

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The NOAA Cooperative Science Centers hosted the first Fall 2025 Education Experts’ Seminar Series (EESS) Alumni Career Panel, featuring six distinguished alumni representing diverse NOAA-supported centers and professional pathways. The virtual event, held on October 23, brought together current students and fellows to learn from alumni whose careers span academia, industry, and government service.

Panelists included:

  • Dr. Quinn McColly (CCME) – Managing Director of Water Resources, Conservation Equity Management
  • Nicholas Coleman (LMRCSC) – Fisheries Certification Director, MRAG Americas
  • Mia Treviño (NCAS-M) – Climate Program Manager, Office of Climate and Sustainability, City of El Paso
  • Dr. Dugwon Seo (CESSRST) – Associate Professor, Queensborough Community College, CUNY
  • Dr. Alana Menendez (CESSRST) – Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Virginia
  • Dr. Anaiya Reliford (NCAS-M) – Senior Research Scientist, Research Institute for Tactical Autonomy (RITA), Howard University

Moderated by representatives from the NOAA Cooperative Science Center program, the discussion highlighted each panelist’s academic and professional trajectory, emphasizing how NOAA support shaped their skills, confidence, and networks. Panelists also offered advice on navigating early-career challenges, building mentorship relationships, and aligning scientific training with emerging opportunities in climate resilience, sustainability, and environmental technology.

The event underscored NOAA’s commitment to cultivating a diverse and prepared scientific workforce dedicated to advancing environmental and climate research.
