NOAA 2025 Satellites Hackathon

The NOAA Satellites Hackathon (NOAASatHack) is an exciting virtual competition taking place in October 2025 for students to learn about the many uses of satellite data.

The challenge for this event is for students to develop a public awareness campaign about an environmental hazard by connecting NOAA satellite data to neighborhood level impacts. Coding knowledge is not required and training sessions to expand students’ remote sensing knowledge and technical skills will be provided ahead of the competition.

What to Expect

  • 🛰️  Oct 6-10: Training Days – background info and coding exercises
  • 🤝  Oct 10: Social Hour – network with other participants
  • 👥  Oct 14: Team Formation Day – create teams and assign topics
  • 💻  Oct 15-21: Competition – one week to develop project
  • 🗣️  Oct 22: Presentation Day – teams present projects to judges
  • 🏆  Oct 29: Awards Ceremony – find out who wins!

Apply

Eligible applicants include:

  • Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in classes during October 2025 (any major)
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Coding skills are not a prerequisite
  • Interested in learning more about NOAA satellite data / satellite remote sensing

Applications are being accepted from undergraduate and graduate students of any major through September 12, 2025.
