Activity Descriptions
- AGU Fall Meeting – AGU (American Geophysical Union) Fall Meeting is the most influential event in the world dedicated to the advancement of Earth and space sciences. Researchers, scientists, educators, students, policymakers, enthusiasts, journalists, and communicators attend AGU Fall Meeting to better understand our planet and environment, and our role in preserving its future.
- AMS Annual Meeting – 2026 AMS (American Meteorological Association) Annual Meeting is the world’s largest yearly gathering for the weather, water, and climate community. It brings together great minds from a diverse set of scientific disciplines – helping attendees make career-long professional contact and life-long friends while learning from the very top people in the atmospheric sciences.
- CSC Education Experts Seminar Series – Bimonthly NOAA mission aligned professional development webinars organized by Education Experts at the four NOAA CSC for fellows at their institutions.
- Interdisciplinary Research Seminar Series – NCAS-M II faculty and other NOAA collaborators present their research activities and interests to the NCAS-M II community, so that new students can get acquainted with NCAS-M II and NOAA mission-aligned research.
- NCAS-M II Annual Center-Wide Cohort Experience – The annual in-person workshop provides students with a dynamic learning experience designed to improve professional, career, and skill development to enhance their understanding of the NOAA mission enterprise. Workshop activities will engage participants in virtual idea sharing, large and small group discussions, and interactive activities.
- NCAS-M II Fellows Orientation – The online meeting introduces students to NCAS-M II staff and faculty advisors and discusses the requirements and expectations of NCAS-M II fellows.
- NERTO/UG Internship-at NOAA Orientation – The online meeting introduces students to the requirements and expectations of NCAS-M II NOAA Experiential Research and Training Opportunity (NERTO) and EPP/MSI CSC Undergraduate Internship-at-NOAA. Graduate students are required to complete a 12-week NERTO at NOAA with a NOAA mentor. Undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to complete a 10-week intensive summer internship at NOAA with a NOAA mentor.
- NERTO/UG Internship-at NOAA Preparation Meetings – Meetings with students and the NCAS-M II Distinguished Scientist, Education Expert, Faculty Advisor, and NOAA Mentor prior to NERTO/NETSI to discuss roles and responsibilities during NERTO/NETSI.
- NOAA Science Seminar – This seminar is a required activity for graduate fellows from CSCs to present their NERTOs. NSS is hosted by NOAA and NOAA EPP/MSI.
- NOAA Skills and Competencies Training at NCAS-M II – NOAA subject matter experts in collaboration with the NOAA Technical Advisor and NOAA Technical Monitor conduct skills training in NOAA-mission priority areas such as:
- a) interdisciplinary fields for policy applications of natural resources, science, and technology concepts;
- b) environmental policy to understand links to human dimensions at the ecosystem level of their academic discipline(s) and/or research;
- c) statistical methods used in social sciences (design, methods, analyses, and interpretation) to gain understanding of the development of social science research question(s) and the application of the relevant social science methodology; and,
- d) linking science and management to decision-making policy and how these are used in addressing impacts of global environmental changes and environmental justice.
