The National Weather Service (NWS) has launched a nationwide hiring initiative for entry-level meteorologists to support continuous 24/7 operations, strengthen mission delivery, and advance NWS Transformation efforts.
This recruitment effort targets Meteorologist GS-05/07/09 positions across Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs) and applicable National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) centers. NWS aims to begin by filling 145 entry-level meteorologist positions this fiscal year.
For the first time, this hiring initiative is being conducted as a nationwide recruitment campaign and will use NWS’s Direct Hire Authority to streamline the hiring process. Qualified applicants will be added to an ongoing candidate inventory that hiring managers can use to fill current and future vacancies as needs arise.
