NOAA Educational Partnership Program (EPP) Celebrates 25 Years of STEM Diversity and Workforce Development

Washington, D.C. — NCAS-M honors the 25th anniversary of the NOAA Educational Partnership Program (EPP), a federal initiative that has expanded opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for students nationwide.

Launched in 2001, EPP has maintained a long-term collaboration between NOAA and Minority Serving Institutions to develop a varied pool of emerging scientists, researchers, and professionals who support NOAA’s objectives. Through scholarships, fellowships, research partnerships, internships, and career development initiatives, the program helps students bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical scientific work.

Throughout the last twenty-five years, EPP has promoted STEM education and career preparation by assisting undergraduate and graduate students in NOAA-relevant fields, strengthening the capabilities of partner institutions, and fostering research collaboration with NOAA’s scientific teams and facilities.

“NOAA’s EPP is an enduring model for inclusive STEM training and workforce development,” said Dr. Sen Chiao, Director of NCAS-M. “Celebrating its 25th anniversary highlights our shared commitment to equity in environmental science and to empowering the next generation of scientists.”
