Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external partners regarding scientific needs and deadlines in accomplishing mission goals. Advise on the assigned research work and aid personnel within the office participating in studies. Serve as a contributor and reviewer for manuscripts, panels and committees.
- Investigate long- and short-term program problems and needs, conduct research, recommend solutions, and write scientific papers for publication. Identify, define, and refine specific problems for study and determine the most logical approach to be used. Analyze and interpret data from satellite, airborne, and situ sensors to draw conclusions and make recommendations for future work.
- Prepare mission plans and operate airborne hyperspectral imaging systems requiring programming to develop geo-registered map products capable of distinguishing among phytoplankton community composition. Integrate NASA PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) and GLIMR (Geosynchronous Littoral Imaging and Monitoring Radiometer) products into the Great Lakes Coast Watch Node. Install and deploy sensors in situ and on aircraft or drone, geo-registration of mapping products, software development to automate map products and web displays for use through the Great Lakes Coast Watch node, and other National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) decision support systems.
